SA performed geotechnical investigation, evaluation and design, monitored vibrations during construction, and observed driven H-pile installation for 7-story parking garage in urban environment with close proximity to existing multi-story structures.
Stephens Associates Consulting Engineers (SA) provided geotechnical engineering for new 7-story MVRTA parking garage in urban environment with close proximity to existing multi-story structures. Performed geotechnical subsurface exploration and laboratory testing program, evaluated subsurface conditions. Evaluated settlement and feasibility of shallow foundations, designed steel H-pile foundations for vertical and lateral resistance. Evaluated vibrations generated by pile driving and potential for impacts to adjacent structures, and prepared geotechnical report and pile foundation specifications. During construction phase, SA reviewed contractor submittals and requests for information, consulted with Architect on geotechnical issues, observed static and dynamic pile load test, reviewed and interpreted test results, and selected driving criteria. Observed installation of test and production piles, full-time on site, including pile logging, real-time monitoring of pile hammer energy, and monitoring of vibrations at adjacent structures by multiple seismographs.
