Jackson Mills Dam (aka Jackson Falls Dam)
Nashua, NH
The City of Nashua engaged SA to provide dam engineering expertise and represent its interests during construction of pneumatic crest-gate upgrades to its 32-ft. high, 178 ft. long, FERC-regulated, run-of-river Dam that the City owns in downtown Nashua. Dam improvements, consisting of rock anchors and the new pneumatic crest gates, were funded and constructed on the City’s dam by a private developer to improve flood discharge capacity and lower upstream flood elevations. The City also leased the Dam to a third party for power generation and maintenance.
SA consulted with the City with respect to City goals for owning and operating the Dam and to represent the City’s interests during construction. The Construction uncovered previously unknown conditions and geometry that required design modifications. SA attended weekly construction meetings with the City, FERC and NHDES representatives, the contractor and design engineer, periodically observed construction, and reviewed design changes for the City’s interests for compliance with state regulations and long-term dam ownership.
